Los autores de los códices están preocupados por un eventual fin del mundo; sin embargo, no existe ninguna profecía al respecto en el año 2012 en los códices mayas. En ningún lugar de los códices mayas los epigrafistas han encontrado señales de profecías apocalípticas relacionadas con una fecha concreta.

Cualquiera que revise los códices mayas en la búsqueda de evidencia para las profecías apocalípticas, como sugieren los seguidores del ámbito esotérico, se desilusionarán.

Como muchos otros pueblos mesoamericanos, los mayas también concebían múltiples creaciones y destrucciones del universo, y según su cosmovisión el universo actual tampoco iba a existir para siempre. Una visión concreta del fin del mundo se presenta en la siguiente figura:

Se observa a la anciana diosa Ix-Chel regando agua de un cántaro. Arriba de ella está el cocodrilo celeste de cuyas fauces abiertas salen torrentes de agua. En el fondo de la escena está Ah-Puch, dios de la muerte,  señor del inframundo. En la mitología maya prehispánica, ambos dioses ancianos tienen que ver tanto con la creación del mundo actual como con su destrucción. En las aguas del cántaro aparece la fecha 5eb’del calendario tzolk’in, tal vez una referencia a la fecha en que los mayas esperaban la gran inundación.

Los mayas tuvieron varias visiones sobre el futuro y aunque la fecha 2012 no desempeña ningún papel en los códices, no se puede afirmar que el asunto de las profecías sea irrelevante en los códices mayas en general.

End of the world

The authors of Codexes are concerned because of a possible end of the world; nevertheless, does not exist any prophecy on this matter for year  2,012   in    Mayan codexes.   The epigraphists have found  any  signal  of apocalyptic  prophecies   on  the  Mayan  codexes.

Anyone  who  revises  Mayan  codexes  searching  evidence  for apocalyptic  prophecies, as well as the followers of esoteric  believes,  will be disappointed.

As many other Middleamerica’s people, Mayas also conceive many creations and destructions from the universe, and according  to their cosmovision, the actual  universe neither will exist forever.  A concrete vision of the end of the world is represented in the following  figure:

Its observed the ancient goddess  IX-CHEL  sending water with a jug. In the background of  the scene is AH-PUCH, god of death, lord of the underworld.
In the mayan pre-hispanic  mythology, both ancient gods have to do with the creation of present world and  its destruction.  On the pitcher’s water  appears the date  5 EB from  the  Sacred Calendar (TZOLKIN), perhaps a reference of the date in which Mayas wait the Big Flood.

Mayas had various visions about future and even when the year 2,012 don’t represent any event on the codexes, we cannot say that prophecies could be irrelevant in the Mayan codexes in general.
